The previous two finals were canceled because to the COVID-19 epidemic, so this will be the first final to be performed in front of a full house since the 2019 final.
The final was initially slated to take place at Munich's Allianz Arena. The final hosts were shifted back a year due to the postponing and relocation of the 2020 final, resulting in the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg hosting the 2022 final.

Due to the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian situation, UEFA confirmed in February 2022 that they would consider removing Saint Petersburg as the final host.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, UEFA scheduled an emergency meeting of its executive committee, where it was expected to officially withdraw the match from Russia.

A day later, UEFA announced that the final would be shifted to Saint-Denis' Stade de France, close north of Paris.

The UEFA Champions League final will be place for the third time in the stadium, which previously hosted the finals in 2000 and 2006.

In the 2022 UEFA Super Cup, the champions will face the winners of the UEFA Europa League 2021–22.

Match Venue

The final was originally awarded to the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany; however, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the 2020 final to be moved from the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul to the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, the Allianz Arena was reawarded with the 2023 final, and the 2022 final was given to the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg, which was the original host of the 2021 final.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, UEFA called an emergency meeting of its executive committee on February 25, 2022, during which they decided to shift the final to Saint-Denis' Stade de France.

Amsterdam, Barcelona, Munich, and Rome were also considered as alternate hosts. Since 2006, France has not hosted a UEFA Champions League Final.

HOST SELECTION

See 2023 UEFA Champions League Final Host Selection for further information on Munich's selection as the original host city.

UEFA opened an open bidding process on September 28, 2018 to choose the venues for the 2021 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Women's Champions League finals. Expressions of interest were due on October 26, 2018, and bid dossiers were due on February 15, 2019.

On November 1, 2018, UEFA confirmed that two associations had indicated interest in hosting the 2021 UEFA Champions League final, and that both associations had filed their dossiers by the deadline on February 22, 2019.

The UEFA Executive Committee chose the Krestovsky Stadium during their meeting in Ljubljana, Slovenia on September 24, 2019, which also named the hosts for the 2021 and 2023 UEFA Champions League finals.

The UEFA Executive Committee announced on June 17, 2020, that due to the postponement and relocation of the 2020 final due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, the 2022 final would be held in Saint Petersburg.
